Volunteers

Discovery Science Place seeks volunteers for the fourth annual Tyler Mini Maker Faire. Volunteers are needed to assist as greeters, registration, parking, ticket takers, info booth, set up and tear down. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Parental consent is required for those under 18. (We will accept volunteers between 12 and 15 years old, but they must have a parent/adult working with them during their shift.) In 2015, over 1,200 people of all ages came out for a fun day of science, engineering and technology innovation. Our volunteers help make this event a huge success!

Opportunities

Registration – Greet attendees and have them sign the waiver form. Assist with wrist bands. 2-4 people needed to work in shifts between 8:30am to 6pm.

Gatekeepers – Monitor entrance gates to verify wrist bands on attendees. Monitor emergency exit gates. 4-6 people needed in shifts from 8:30am to 6pm.

Zone Manager Assistants – These volunteers will work with a zone manager to monitor the area, relieve makers for breaks and distribute water. 3-5 people needed in shifts from 8:30am to 6pm.

Perimeter Control – Monitor perimeter access points, help direct pedestrians, makers, volunteers and VIP’s to entrances and parking. 6 people in shifts from 8:30am to 6pm.

DSP Booths – These are hands on activities interacting with guests. This includes providing instructions and assistance as needed. 6-8 people in shifts from 8:30am to 6pm.

Set Up – Volunteers will assist with tables and chairs, signage, barricades and help Makers load/unload. 5-8 people needed 6am to 10am.

Friday (4/28) Set Up – Volunteers will assist with tables and chairs, signage, barricades and help Makers load/ unload. 3-5 people needed 4pm to 8pm.

What do you get by being a volunteer at the Tyler Mini Maker Faire?

  • Each volunteer gains free entrance to the Tyler Mini Maker Faire. This can be before or after your shift.
  • Volunteers receive the official Tyler Mini Maker Faire shirt. We ask that you wear it during your shift.
  • Each volunteer, if needed, will receive written confirmation of time spent volunteering,. This will include 30 minutes travel each way
